چکیده

Where tanh is the hyperbolic tangens function, h the Planck constant, BBo is the main magnetic field strength, kBB the Boltzmann constant and T is the temperature. At a magnetic field of 1.5 T the polarization of the protons (H) at body temperature is only ∼5 x 10 and for C ∼1.0 x 10. The polarization is proportional to the magnetic field strength. Consequently, a 3 T scanner will result in a doubling of the polarization. The term hyperpolarization is used to describe the situation when a non-equilibrium

Flux through hepatic pyruvate carboxylase and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase detected by hyperpolarized 13C magnetic resonance.

In the heart, detection of hyperpolarized [(13)C]bicarbonate and (13)CO(2) by magnetic resonance (MR) after administration of hyperpolarized [1-(13)C]pyruvate is caused exclusively by oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate via the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDH). However, liver mitochondria possess alternative anabolic pathways accessible by [1-(13)C]pyruvate, which may allow a wider diagno...

Dynamic 1H imaging of hyperpolarized [1‐13C]lactate in vivo using a reverse INEPT experiment

PURPOSE Dynamic magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging of hyperpolarized 13 C-labeled cell substrates has enabled the investigation of tissue metabolism in vivo. Currently observation of these hyperpolarized substrates is limited mainly to 13 C detection. We describe here an imaging pulse sequence that enables proton observation by using polarization transfer from the hyperpolarized 13 C nucl...

Detection of inflammatory cell function using 13C magnetic resonance spectroscopy of hyperpolarized [6-13C]-arginine

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are highly prevalent inflammatory cells that play a key role in tumor development and are considered therapeutic targets. MDSCs promote tumor growth by blocking T-cell-mediated anti-tumoral immune response through depletion of arginine that is essential for T-cell proliferation. To deplete arginine, MDSCs express high levels of arginase, which catalyzes ...

In vivo measurement of normal rat intracellular pyruvate and lactate levels after injection of hyperpolarized [1-(13)C]alanine.

Hyperpolarized technology utilizing dynamic nuclear polarization has enabled rapid and high-sensitivity measurements of (13)C metabolism in vivo. The most commonly used in vivo agent for hyperpolarized (13)C metabolic imaging thus far has been [1-(13)C]pyruvate. In preclinical studies, not only is its uptake detected, but also its intracellular enzymatic conversion to metabolic products includi...

Single shot three‐dimensional pulse sequence for hyperpolarized 13C MRI

PURPOSE Metabolic imaging with hyperpolarized 13 C-labeled cell substrates is a promising technique for imaging tissue metabolism in vivo. However, the transient nature of the hyperpolarization, and its depletion following excitation, limits the imaging time and the number of excitation pulses that can be used. We describe here a single-shot three-dimensional (3D) imaging sequence and demonstra...

The effect of hyperpolarized tracer concentration on myocardial uptake and metabolism.

Hyperpolarized (13)C-labeled substrates directly provide a source of magnetic resonance (MR) signal to observe the substrates' real-time uptake and enzymatic conversion. The aim of this study was to optimize the concentration of hyperpolarized [1-(13)C]pyruvate infused as a metabolic tracer, by observing the mitochondrial conversion of pyruvate to H(13)CO(3)(-) in heart tissue. Hyperpolarized p...
